The UK sees around 750 jobs for software developers posted every day, which equates to around one new tech job every two minutes, according to CodinGame.
The recruitment platform reviewed current tech vacancies on the Indeed jobs website and found 30,193 software developer jobs available across the UK.
“Tech companies may be feeling the heat as rising inflation and interest rates slow growth, but demand for software developers remains hot,” said Aude Barral, chief commercial officer of CodinGame.
“The challenge remains the same for tech recruiters: finding and attracting the most talented tech candidates in a highly competitive market.”
But those in the industry are worried about hiring new talent, CodinGame found, with tech recruiters expecting the search for skilled workers to be a challenge for 2022.
Software developer roles are among the most in-demand skills, with JavaScript being the programming language most often advertised in developer job postings.
JavaScript, Java, and Python are the three most in-demand programming languages in software developer roles.
But soft skills are also important. According to CodinGame and CoderPad’s 2022 Tech Hiring Survey, which surveyed 14,000 developers and recruiters worldwide about the tech hiring landscape over the next year, 37% of tech recruiters considered the assessment soft skills and team fit when hiring remotely as a huge challenge, while 34% of developers said they struggled to display soft skills during the remote hiring process.
The survey also revealed that 30% of tech recruiters were looking for skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning – a skill set that 41% of developers would like to work on in the next year.
As technology continues to become an important part of not only our daily lives, but of all businesses, there is a huge search for people with the skills to increase the use of digital in business, but in many In many cases, companies find that there are not enough workers for everyone.
CodinGame has suggested that the salary levels offered are an indicator of a lack of talent to fill advertised roles, with more than half of advertised technical positions offering an average salary of at least £50,000, while 20% offer £70,000 or more.
According to CodinGame, around a quarter of advertised positions were for remote work positions, although more than a third were based in London.
As the pandemic forced everyone to work from home, the need for offices diminished as people proved they could be trusted to use technology to work from anywhere.
Outside of London, Glasgow and Edinburgh were among the top five UK cities in search of tech talent.
The Tech 2022 hiring survey found that 30% of companies would aim to work on talent diversity over the next year, while 38% planned to retain talent they already had.
Barral said targeting more diverse candidates, especially for smaller companies, could help broaden the talent pool and avoid trying to attract the same workers that other companies are competing for.
“[Businesses] should consider expanding their talent pools – identifying developers who lack traditional academic training and using skills-based hiring to identify potential candidates who may not have the CV of typical developer.
