I’ve been with Ericsson for almost 10 years and have been in my current role as Master Software Developer on the Cloud Native team within Packet Core for just over a year.
It has been an interesting journey working at Ericsson. I joined Ericsson because I find the telecommunications industry exciting, it changes very quickly and constantly takes advantage of cutting-edge technologies. At Ericsson, there’s also the opportunity to make an impact by developing software that touches billions of people.
There are three things that really stood out to me during my years at Ericsson.
Training and support
The training and support at Ericsson is amazing. About a year ago, I started a new mission with a whole new team. The product I was working on was new to me and the team, but we got a lot of support for a quick integration. There were well-structured and well-presented trainings to ensure that we received as much technical knowledge as possible. There was also a dedicated product development team in Sweden who had more experience with the product and whom we could contact in case of questions. This is all the result of Ericsson’s exceptional corporate culture, we try to help each other as much as possible.
career development
The culture of career development and support is important at Ericsson, and I have experienced this in my dealings with my line managers. I started as a software developer, then I became a technical manager; after that, I had the opportunity to try out a technical leadership role as Product Owner. I realized that I preferred more tech-focused positions, so I had the opportunity to continue as a senior software developer. When I took office just over a year ago, I received the support I needed to feel comfortable and confident that I could do my job well. The managers here are interested in my career plans for the next, two or even five years, there’s always an ongoing discussion, and they give me clear guidance on what to expect and how to achieve it.
Improving life
The support I received during my years at Ericsson, whether through training or from my team, allowed me to focus on improving lives through my work. At Ericsson, there is a real opportunity to have an impact that touches billions of people. Few companies offer their developers the opportunity to have such a positive impact on people and society as Ericsson does through technologies like 5G.
