Software system

“Unfortunately, the potential of a well-functioning software system is still too often underestimated”

In these times of advanced digitization, a modern, functional and ideally industry-specific ERP system is practically indispensable. To meet the growing demands of the rapidly changing fruit and vegetable sector in the future, the Viennese software developer PCS IT-Trading Ltd has developed the TradeControl ERP system.

At this year’s ICOP grower congress in Weiz, Styria, Werner Schörkhuber, managing partner of the company, gave an overview of the sophisticated software process, which is already successfully used by several well-known fruit and vegetable companies, such as LGV, Unfried, and Biofink.

The software company PCS IT-Trading was founded in 1976. Today it is mainly engaged in the development of industry-specific software systems. “In terms of ERP, data protection and data security are unfortunately extremely important at the moment. Apart from this, it should be noted that existing ERP systems are often not equipped to meet today’s requirements. Up to 80% of ERP users confirm that they could increase the efficiency of daily work processes if the software behind these processes were better,” says Schörkhuber, highlighting the huge opportunities.

The development of the Greenfield TradeControl industrial software was based on three pillars: data protection and security, user-friendliness and mobile support (in the cloud). The results so far have been promising, Schörkhuber said. “In most cases, the system is structured as follows: approximately 60% of daily work requirements can be handled with the standard functions. Industry-specific functions account for 30%, and the remaining 10% are mastered with the help of company-specific functions.

At the end of his presentation, Schörkhuber gave his audience some tips regarding ERP systems and their practical implementation. “Unfortunately, the potential of a well-functioning software system is still too often underestimated. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and be open to the software market, innovations and internal and external experts in this field. And remember that an ERP system usually only really pays for itself after 5-10 years.”

According to Schörkhuber, ERP is particularly demanding: “Above all, it is important that the user and his customers stick together and unite. Experience shows that this is an indispensable basis for long-term success.
